Better Access to Mental Health
Care Program
Better Access to Mental Health Care Program offers Medicare rebates for up to 12 individual psychological services in a calendar year. After an initial group of six services, the referring medical practitioner managing the client will review to determine if any more are needed.
In exceptional circumstances the client may require an additional six services above that already provided (to a maximum total of 18 services per patient per calendar year).
Eligible clients have been assessed with a mental
disorder and referred by:

- A GP who is managing the client under a GP Mental Health Care Plan
- A GP who is managing the client under a psychiatrist assessment and management plan
- A psychiatrist after seeing the client for an eligible Medicare service
- A paediatrician after seeing the client for an eligible Medicare service
- Management of depression, stress, and anxiety
- Life transition and adjustment issues
- Relationship and family issues
- Conflict resolution
- Self-esteem and self-development
- Substance-related issues
- Trauma debriefing and counselling
- Grief and loss
- Anger management
- Stress Management
- Rehabilitation/injury counselling
- Management of organisational issues
- Vocational Assessment and career issues
- Workplace stress
- Chronic pain
